The History of FRAMAG

The company was founded in 1979 and at first predominantly produced machine and plant components for the owner at that time, Lenzing AG. However, very soon the decision was made to acquire other customers as well as to develop one's own products.

Thus a close co-operation with the Steel Mill Department of Fa. Messer Griesheim in Germany developed, with which we initially manufactured the mechanical and later also the electrical components of flame cutting machines for the steel industry. Over a period of time we were also increasingly receiving engineering jobs so that finally our firm completely designed and manufactured the systems sold by Messer Griesheim. A logical consequence of this close co-operation was lastly the acquisition of this business unit by our company in 1996. Since then we have been developing and marketing these products under our own name.

In 1986 our company began to develop foundations for machines which produce strong dynamic loads, which were technically, and in terms of cost ,superior to conventionally calculated foundations. We continued to develop this technology subsequently and created a composite material by the name of Hydropol®, which due to its features is ideally suited to the construction of machine base frames for machine tools. Since then we have succeeded in convincing major machine tool manufacturers of our product.

From the co-operation with Fa. Mannesmann Demag Meer in Germany the initiative for development of heavy circular saws resulted, which have gained entry especially into the lines of production following downstream from the steel manufacturers. The use of Hydropol® material, the construction of transmissions especially suitable for this application, and the use of carbide tipped saw blades led to a new level of performance of circular saws unknown up until now.

Parallel with the development of our own products, our engineering capacity has also been extended. Today for instance we are therefore able to design in the 3D area and use the method of finite elements for the calculation and optimization of the static, dynamic and also thermal deformation of components, and also of complete machines. As a special highlight it should be emphasized that we can execute stability tests and modal analyses, particularly for machine tools. We offer these design and calculation capabilities as a service in addition to our traditional manufacturing capabilities and can already refer to a substantial number of satisfied customers in this regard.

In 1995 the company was taken over during a management buy-out, however the objectives, which concerned the further development of the company, did not change.

Also our target to take a position at the top of technological development remains the same because we are convinced that we can thus fulfil our customers' requirements in the best possible way.
